IT-Label Academy

The modules

Five modules with short lessons, animations and practice questions. You learn at your own pace.

The IT-Label Academy has five modules. Modules 1 to 3 are required for the certificate and take about 5 hours in total. Modules 4 and 5 are additional, take about 2 hours in total and add an endorsement to your certificate. Every lesson has a short explanation, an animation and practice questions.

Module 1. The IT-Label (required)

In this module you learn what the IT-Label is, how it is determined and what your role as an inspector is. The module ends with a final test.

5 lessons, about 80 minutes. Finish with an online test of 15 questions. You pass with 80% correct.

  • Why the IT-Label exists. IT as a basic facility, the comparison with the energy label, what the label is and is not
  • The six levels. From IT5 SHELL to IT1+ PREMIUM, points and what each level means for the tenant
  • The six assessment areas. Connectivity, Infrastructure, Performance, Scalability, Integration and Smart Building
  • Presence and performance. The process from request to certificate, measuring in practice and two years of validity
  • Your role as an inspector. Independence, the fixed method, the IT Demarcation List and what falls outside the label

Module 2. IT and buildings (required)

In module 1 you learned what the IT-Label is. In this module you learn the technology that you assess: from the fibre in the street to the security of the server room. The lessons follow the six steps of the pre-inspection, with extra lessons on redundancy and cybersecurity.

8 lessons, about 125 minutes. Finish with an online test of 20 questions. You pass with 80% correct.

  • Connectivity. Fibre, copper and coax, providers and the question: up to where?
  • Redundancy and cloud. A second connection, false redundancy, bandwidth, latency and stability
  • Cabling. CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A and fibre, data points and the weakest link
  • IT rooms and cable routes. Central IT room, server room, patch cabinet, cable shafts and access
  • Power, backup power and cooling. What IT equipment needs to keep running
  • WiFi. Coverage and capacity, central or per tenant, guest WiFi
  • Smart Building. Building systems, integration and the new generation of facilities
  • Cybersecurity and legislation. The attack surface of a building, the Dutch Cybersecurity Act (Cyberbeveiligingswet), the CRA and the GDPR

Module 3. Carrying out a pre-inspection (required)

In module 1 you learned what the IT-Label is, and in module 2 the technology. In this module you bring it together: you carry out a pre-inspection in the portal, and you deliver a report that you sign with your name.

6 lessons, about 80 minutes. Finish with an online test of 15 questions. You pass with 80% correct.

  • Preparing. The appointment, the advance details and what to bring
  • The space and the user. The first two screens and why the needs matter
  • Answering the questions. Yes, no or unknown, choice questions, notes and adjusting the score
  • How the score is calculated. What weighs heavily, from score to level, and the certainty
  • Photos, floor plan, findings and advice. The evidence and your own words
  • Finishing, signing and sending. The report, the three documents and the practice case De Horizon

Module 4. Certification and audit (additional)

A pre-inspection gives an indication. A certification records the level officially. In this module you learn the complete process: from the client's choice to the certificate in the register, and what happens after that.

5 lessons, about 75 minutes. Finish with an online test of 15 questions. You pass with 80% correct.

  • From pre-inspection to certification. The two routes, the scope and the quotation
  • The on-site audit. Inspecting and measuring, at the right moment
  • Classification and substantiation. From findings per component to a level you can explain
  • Certificate, register and materials. What the client receives and how others verify it
  • Improvement process and recertification. Growing to a higher level, and again after two years

Module 5. Digital Due Diligence (additional)

In a real estate transaction, the structural, legal and financial aspects are examined thoroughly. The digital infrastructure often stays out of view, even though it weighs ever more heavily in the value and lettability of a building. Digital Due Diligence fills that gap. In this module you learn to carry out the research and to write an advisory report that underpins a decision and a negotiation.

4 lessons, about 50 minutes. Finish with an online test of 12 questions. You pass with 80% correct.

  • What Digital Due Diligence is. For whom, why, and the difference with a certification
  • The research. Scope, on site, documents and contracts, measuring where needed
  • The advisory report. Five questions that the report answers
  • In the transaction. The report in the negotiation, and what comes after

After the tests of modules 1 to 3 comes an assessment interview with IT-Label. Those who pass receive the certificate.
